The Improvisation Interest Group, of which Andrew is a chair, is co-hosting a big event this Fall! A collaboration of three SMT interest groups has solicited proposals for short presentations that cover at least one of two categories: (1) intercultural music and improvisation, and/or (2) intercultural music and film/multimedia. At SMT’s Annual Meeting in Milwaukee in November 2026, three groups will hold a joint meeting:

• Improvisation Interest Group
• Global Interculturalism and Musical Peripheries (GIMP) Interest Group
• Film and Multimedia Interest Group

The proposals will be used in a prospective 90-minute alternative format session submitted to the Annual Meeting CFP. The IG chairs who have devoted their time to this exciting event are Andrew Malilay White (Improv IG Co-Chair), Yiyi Gao (Improv IG Co-chair), Desirée Mayr (GIMP Co-Chair), Aaron Carter-Ényì (GIMP Co-Chair), and Clair Nguyen (FMIG Chair).
