At the 2022 annual meeting of the Society for Music Theory, Andrew Malilay White took on the duties of vice chair for the SMT Interest Group on Improvisation. This is a four-year post, and duties include conference panel programming and communications with the chair, Dr. Sean Smithers. A brief excerpt from the group’s mission statement is below:

The SMT Interest Group on Improvisation seeks to establish a space within the music-theory community for the study of improvisation, in any musical style and across disciplinary boundaries.
